Guide to Food Donations

Food is a necessity to our everyday life and when people think about how they will feed their children the net meal, many parents panic even without having time to worry about themselves. People can get free food from food pantries and organizations that give them but they are really not able to feed everyone since the food gets finished and there is nothing left for those who come in late.

If you have extra food in your homes or if you have the money to buy food, you can donate food to a food pantry or organization to help meet their needs. Canned vegetables, canned meats, or dry goods are non perishable items that you can donate to the food pantry.

Do not donate foods that needs lots of ingredients such as hamburger helpers since most families do not have the other ingredients and since hamburger meat is a perishable item. These families will not be able to buy ingredients for it since most of them cannot afford to buy ingredients.

When donating food to food pantries and organizations, there are many things that you need to think about that you should not donate to a food pantry or organization. Foods that are not good or are not healthy for people to eat and foods that these poor people are able to eat all the time like Ramen.

It is not good to donate Ramen since it is not good for people. It is high in sodium and has no nutritional value in it. Don’t give these families food that are very cheap and can easily be bought by them.

Some food pantries and organizations will accept perishable items but your should not put them with dry goods and canned foods. Bring it directly to the people in charge of the food pantry so they will know what to do with it.

If you are going to donate perishable items, make sure that you do not bring in large amounts like frozen vegetable or hamburger meat.

If your can is dented, if your can has no a label on it, or anything made of glass should not be donated to a food pantry. Check the label of the food you are donating. It they are spicy foods you should not donate them. Do not donate foods that you would not eat yourself.

When donating foods to food pantries or organizations, make sure that you keep these tips in mind. If you were the one eating in a food pantry, think of what you would like to eat. If you have thought about it, write down a list of these items, go shopping and drop off the foods at our local pantry. You can also donate online at many different online organizations.
